
要入讀自己心儀的大學,隨了要考好DSE以外,Student Learning Profile (SLP)也是對於大學收生一個不可或缺的衡量指標。同學在填選JUPAS 時也要附上一份SLP,因此同學需在其花上努力,不應低估SLP帶來的影響,畢竟大學不再只注重學生背誦的能力,更看重的是學生的全人發展。因此,本文會從5個不同角度為同學分析應如何寫好SLP,並會提供一篇相關的範文,以助大家入讀理想的科目。
SLP是甚麼?

SLP 五大要點
(一) 連繫科目的相關性

中學生活多彩多姿,相信同學也參加不少不同類型的課外活動。雖然參與課外活動不但可以增加自己的閱歷,亦可以為增廣見聞。然而,在撰寫個人陳述時,同學應該懂得篩選,所引用的課外活動應與自己所選的科目有莫大的相關性,並再加以解釋該課外活動如何對自己所選的科目有幫助,畢竟同學的目標要在有限的字數內令面試官認為你是該科目的合適人選,因此突出重點是不可或缺的。
例如:有意修讀音樂系的同學可以列舉出自己過去參加的樂器班、比賽等等,從中表明自己對音樂有一定的認識和興趣,因此有志投身音樂系繼續深造。
(二) 展現個人特質

SLP的作用就是只令面試官在從沒有見過你的情況下認識你,加上面試官可能會一次觀看海量的文案,因此如要滿足他們的胃口,同學絕對要在個人陳述中展現自己獨有的特點。
在個人陳述中,同學需要列舉出自己的經歷、專長以及性格,並闡述如何幫自己入讀所選的科目。例如:如有志報讀電子工程,同學不但可以寫自己對工程有濃厚的興趣,也建議寫自己一些實際經歷,如機器人編程比賽的經歷,並簡單描述當中的過程,進而表明自己有能力處理工程設計的東西,因此有信心日後在學習時得心應手。
(三) 個人抱負

同學須在個人自述中展現出未來的發展抱負,並結合所選的科目加以說明。如此一來,這樣能夠表達出你願意投放足够的時間和精力在該科目上,並且可以間接表現出你願意長時間向該科目發展,不會因些少困難而放棄,亦希望於日後發揮自己的專長回饋社會,以致面試官不會覺得把學位給予你是浪費之舉。
同學可寫自己希望透過入讀這科助自己實現夢想,例如:如果同學希望入讀營養與食品的科目,則可以寫自己將來希望成為一位營養師,並表示自己過往有看過一些營養的資訊,明白到預防勝於治療的重要性,想進一步了解營養,因此希望藉著入讀營養相關的科目以裝備自己,以便將來能幫助需要的人。
(四) 措辭須保持謙遜

雖然在個人自述含有自我行銷的成分,但是同學不應過分吹噓。例如:曾有想報讀歷史系的同學表示自己對古今中外的歷史事件簡直「瞭如指掌」,那怕自己只達中學程度,因此認為自己是歷史系的最合適人選。然而,這實屬言過其實的表達,讓面試官留下不好的印象。因此,同學在書寫時應在展現自己的可取之處的同時也不失謙虛。例如可寫:本人在中學時不但修讀歷史科,還加入了歷史學會,箇中研習了不少史料。正因如此,本人在一些重要的歷史議題上都有一定的涉獵,還望日後繼續學習更多。
(五) 留意各大院校的要求

除了以上有關SLP的內容敍述之外,同學也需要留意各大院校對個人自述等的特定要求。例如有大學比較注重你的實際經歷多於理論上的空談;有些則只會視SLP為輔助性質,更重要的是當遇到有多於一個學生成績相近或相同時,那SLP在這時候就會起關鍵作用,甚或可以使成績較低的學生也能優勝於成績較高的學生。此外大多院校都沒有限制撰寫個人自述的語言,因此同學可使用中文或英文寫,最重要能夠清楚地表達意思。

我從小就對機械工程相關的東西有濃厚的興趣,每當看到車輛、飛機、船舶時,總想探究是甚麼原理和物理構造驅使它們能日行千里,務求了解當中所應用的科學和設計過程,這樣便漸漸培養了對機械工程的興趣以及有基本的認識。

在我的中學生涯中,感恩有學校所給予的機會,我有幸可以參加不同類型的課外活動,而當中最印象深刻莫過於初中時參加了一個校外的機械人編程工作坊 (創意機器人挑戰賽),當中獲益匪淺。在比賽中,我當時需要在三次機會內將一輛已編程的機器車完整地駛過一條迂迴曲折的軌道,為此我不斷研究如何編程,當中我也學到了不少編程技巧。而我的比賽結果是:兩次失敗一次成功,當中一次更把車飛出軌道。雖然我當時的成果不是完美,但我很享受當中的樂趣,尤其是在過程中不斷嘗試後,最終成功的一剎那,當中的成就感不言而喻;以及能從中利用不同的編碼方式把程式運作,我正正是喜歡這種邏輯思維。

另外,我於校內亦參加了電子工程學會,當中我是主要負責航拍機的項目。事實上,我從小性格就比較內向,不太懂得表達自己和羞於與其他人溝通。幸好,在工程學會中,我有許多訓練這方面的機會,例如:我能教導其他學生使用航拍機拍攝風景,從而能迫使我與不同人接觸和對話,以此使我逐漸在與人相處時不會過於靦腆;同時我們一眾會員會定時開小組會議,過程中彼此交換意見,集思廣益。經過多番的討論後,我的表達能力有所進步,並且願意主動提出意見,性格開始變為外向。而我也明白無論日後從事甚麼事情,良好的溝通技巧是不可或缺的,畢竟我們是生處於一個群體社會。因此,我更希望擴闊社交圈子,增廣見聞。

During my secondary years, I felt very grateful that my alma mater offered me opportunities to participate in various kinds of extracurricular activities. Among them, the most unforgettable activity that I took part in was the mBot competition organized by Tin Ka Ping secondary school, which benefits me a lot. In the competition, I was required to have a programmed robotic car gone through a winding track within three chances. Therefore, I kept studying how to program machines that equipped me with lots of programming techniques. As for my result of the competition, I failed twice and eventually succeeded for the last time. Indeed, the outcome of that competition was not as excellent as I wanted, I enjoyed the competition, particularly the process that my works finally paid off after attempting to write the coding. On top of that, I could learn the way that machines were operated by programmable codes.

All in all, I wish to pursue the mechanical engineering industry in the future. With my keen enthusiasm and my potential qualities, I hope I can further my studies at universities so as to enrich myself with knowledge. I believe I can contribute to society especially in the field of technology.
